NYPD: Suspect Who Escaped Police Custody In East Harlem Captured In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD has captured a suspect who escaped from officers while handcuffed over the weekend.
Investigators said they found Austin Stevenson, 25, Wednesday morning in Brooklyn.
On Sunday afternoon, Stevenson was taken into custody in East Harlem on suspicion of criminal trespass at 160 E. 103rd St.
As he was led to the 23rd Precinct station house, police said Stevenson pushed his escorting officer and took off. Police said the officer lost his balance.
Police said Stevenson has been charged with felony assault, resisting arrest and criminal trespass.
Stevenson's escape was the third in the area this summer.
Arthur Collins escaped from the 25th Precinct, also in East Harlem, in July after he got out of his holding cell when he was being booked on a burglary charge.
A month earlier, Tareek Arnold escaped from detectives in the 32nd Precinct in Harlem. Surveillance video showed him running down the street in handcuffs while detectives chased after him.
Both suspects were eventually captured.
