Ex-Wrestler Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka Charged With Killing Brooklyn Woman In 1983

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Former professional wrestling star Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka has been charged with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend in eastern Pennsylvania more than three decades ago.

Prosecutors on Tuesday announced the results of a grand jury investigation of Snuka in the death of 23-year-old Nancy Argentino of Brooklyn.

Argentino was pronounced dead after authorities were called to a hotel room near Allentown in May 1983.

Snuka said he returned to his hotel room to find Argentino gasping for air. An autopsy revealed a traumatic brain injury. A pathologist at the time wrote that the case should be investigated as a homicide.

Snuka, 72 and now living in Waterford Township, New Jersey, wrote in his 2012 autobiography that he was innocent in her death, which he said ruined his life. He said he never hit or threatened her.

Court records indicate that Snuka was arraigned Tuesday afternoon and sent to Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Last month, Snuka's wife told 1Wrestling.com that "Superfly" has been diagnosed with stomach cancer.
