3 Up And 3 Down: Who's Hot And Who's Not In New York Sports

Taking a look at who's hot and who's not on the local sports landscape:

THREE UP:

1. Mets In The Standings

Things didn't go well on Tuesday night, but the Mets have otherwise been brilliant over the past month or so. They've opened up a sizable lead over the second-place Washington Nationals in the NL East.

2. Michael Conforto

He's batting .391 with three homers and five doubles over his last 17 games (hat tip to SNY's Steve Gelbs for those stats). The kid can play.

3. Jets

Leonard Williams

They looked good beating the Giants a few days ago in the Snoopy Bowl. Leonard Williams was hurt but an MRI showed no significant damage and he should be ready for the season opener. Dare I say that things are looking up for a change in Florham Park.

THREE DOWN:

1. Mets In The Bullpen

Bobby Parnell

Eric O'Flaherty has been brutal, and Bobby Parnell has been impressively brutal. Good thing they both pitched during the Mets' 14-8 loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday evening.

2. Yankees

The Toronto Blue Jays just won't go away, and that's a problem because they're in the AL East driver's seat right now. The Bronx Bombers have been pretty good, but it hasn't been enough to leave Toronto behind.

3. Islanders' Ice Girls

The team will be moving to Brooklyn without their figure-skating cheerleaders/ice cleaners. It's the right move and a step forward for the team, for sports and for society.
