Nassau Police Arrest 4 In Connection With Slew Of Robberies

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Four people were arrested in connection with seven armed robberies in Nassau County.

Police said they would threaten their victims with imitation guns, knives and even a machete, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

Police said Cecilia Vallecillo, Jaime Machado, and Henry Armando Hernandez are charged with seven counts of first- and second-degree robbery each.

Juan Vallecillo is charged with with six counts each of first- and second-degree robbery.

Authorities said the three men and one woman team held up six business in Baldwin, Hempstead and Uniondale, including gas stations, delis and a hair salon. In the seventh case, police said they robbed a man in a packing lot in Rockville Centre, Hall reported.

"This was a persistent pattern. It's only by the grace of God that nobody was injured, and in this particular case, they would have likely gone on to commit additional robberies," said Nassau County Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter.

Police Sgt. Richard Lebrun said it started with a robbery on Aug. 2 and continued with six more robberies through Sept. 9, WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported.

"What they would do is enter the premises, the establishment, and by use of a gun or a machete, they would threaten the store owner and demand money," Sgt. Lebrun said.

Each time the suspects stole cash from the victims, according to authorities. Krumpter said the suspects made off with anywhere between $40 and $3,000 in the stick-ups, 1010 WINS' Mona Rivera reported.

The foursome was expected to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
