Rashad Jennings Apologizes To Eli, Coughlin, Giants, Fans In Column

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Following the Giants' collapse against the Cowboys this past Sunday night, running back Rashad Jennings revealed that he was told not to score in Big Blue's final series.

There were many questions about the end of the game, and quarterback Eli Manning admitted publicly that he was the one who told Jennings not to get into the end zone.

On Wednesday morning, Jennings penned a first-person editorial in the New York Post. In the column, he apologized to his quarterback.

"First of all, let me say that I want to apologize from my heart for the negative light that I unintentionally cast my quarterback and friend Eli Manning in," Jennings wrote. "I continue to have the utmost respect for him, and I have complete trust in his leadership.

"It is a strange and unwelcome feeling I have that after all these years as a professional football player, I finally get to experience the other side of how words can be misconstrued ... As soon as I got word of the headlines, I called Eli, and before I could even begin to apologize, he basically expressed his understanding.

"Being the humble guy that he is, he wanted us to put this fiasco behind us with no hard feelings so that we could focus on the Falcons. That is why I am taking this opportunity to more formalize my apology to Eli, the team and the fans."

Jennings wrote that he also apologized to head coach Tom Coughlin.

"I take full ownership of the fact that I didn't handle things as I should have," Jennings wrote. "And for that, again, I truly apologize to my quarterback, to my coach, to my team, and to our fans."

The Giants' home opener is on Sunday against the Falcons at MetLife Stadium.
