Viral Video Scares Teens, Parents To Send Message About Social Media Stranger Danger

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A video with horror movie production values and very real fear has been making the rounds online.

As CBS2's Dave Carlin reported, young boys are lured into a stranger's home and a van by Coby Persin.

"I made a fake profile as a 15-year-old girl, friend requested three boys with the parents' permission," Persin said.

Persin's shocking social experiment has been an internet sensation.

"This one got 2 million in 24 hours," he said.

John, 13, walks into a house expecting to spend time with a girl he only knew from Facebook.

Instead, in walked his mother.

Jordan, 14, entered what could have been a kidnapper's van.

In the back was his father.

The video is the second in a series, the first one featured young girls.

The methods and scenarios were similar for both the boys' and girls' versions of the videos, but Persin said the boys engaged in risky behavior much more quickly.

"The boys were just more vulnerable to it. The girls it took them six days to them there, now the boy version we got them there, some of them in less than a day," he said.

Clinical Psychologist Dr. Harris Stratyner said he thinks the video goes too far, tricking and terrorizing kids, but he said every parent needs to explain stranger danger.

"You explain to them you love them, how dangerous the world can be, you don't frighten them," he said.

Scared, then saved, in videos that keep coming. More are in the works.
