Coyote Puts South Toms River Elementary School On Alert

SOUTH TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- School officials in South Toms River, New Jersey were on alert Monday, after a coyote was spotted on school grounds.

Children at South Toms River Elementary School were kept inside during recess Monday, after a coyote was spotted on school grounds, according to a notice from school principal Dennis Holzapfel.

South Toms River police were at the school when classes were let out on Monday, and will return on Tuesday, police said.

School security was patrolling grounds after hours.

Parents were asked not to have their children play on school grounds until the matter was resolved.

A report was created with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, the school said.
