9/30 CBS2 Wednesday Afternoon Weather Headlines

By Matt DeLucia
CBS2 Meteorologist/Weather Producer

Good afternoon, folks!

Expect scattered, generally light showers for the remainder of today as the cold front moves through. The shower chance continues overnight, with lows dropping into the 50s and even upper 40s for some of the NW 'burbs.

We're not done with this front, though, as it stalls off the coast, taps into tropical moisture and brings more rain over the next several days. Thursday is looking like lots of clouds and scattered showers, with some heavier rain moving through later Friday and into Saturday. Our temps drop way down, and we'll struggle to get much higher than 60 the next two days. In addition, it'll be turning windy, especially for Friday. With a strong NE flow, coastal flooding will become more of a concern.

We're still watching Joaquin closely, now a Category 1 hurricane near the Bahamas. It'll be moving very little over the next couple of days, before making a turn to the north. The latest timing suggests any affects on our area would be Sunday night and Monday. There is now more consensus of a US East Coast landfall, but much uncertainty still exists as to where. No matter what, expect some more tropical moisture to be thrown our way.

Be sure to stay tuned for more updates over the next day or two as we monitor the latest as things have been and will likely continue to change. Have a good one!
