Police Release New Photos Of Suspect In Robbery At Plaza Hotel

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police late Thursday released new photos of a suspect they said robbed a currency exchange business inside the famed Plaza Hotel.

The robbery happened around 11 a.m. Monday.

Police said the man approached the Travelex Currency Exchange located inside of the food hall, which is part of the public shopping area of the luxury hotel.

The man asked to buy 500 Euros, but as the clerk counted out the notes, police said the man pulled out a gun. He then grabbed over 4,600 Euros, the equivalent of about $5,100, and fled, police said.

Investigators were seen going in and out of the shopping area on Monday after the incident. Inside, a sign was posted on the door saying the shop was closed due to foreseen circumstances.

Police late Thursday released new surveillance videos of the suspect on the street, taken before the incident.

He was described as a black male with a bald head and glasses, standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds.

He was last seen walking east on West 58th Street and was wearing brown shoes and had a black bag.
