College Student In Coma After Hit-And-Run In Clifton, N.J.
CLIFTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A hit-and-run in Clifton, New Jersey last week has left a college student in a coma, and a family was demanding answers.
As CBS2's Hazel Sanchez reported, family and friends of Montclair State University student Anna Semioli were posting fliers on campus and along Route 46 in Clifton late Sunday.
"She's a great person. She honestly is," said friend Gianna Martino, "and I don't know how somebody can just do this to her and just think that it's OK to just not come forward."
The friends and family members hoped someone would help them find who hit Semioli, 22, with a vehicle and left her critically injured on the shoulder of the highway.
"It's not right what they did to her and left her there," said friend Danielle Martino. "It's not right."
Semioli was struck just before midnight Thursday. She was walking east on Route 46 near the Valley Road exit when she was struck.
Childhood friends said Semioli, a senior at Montclare State, was supposed to meet up with people on campus that night.
Police found her car on school property, at least a mile from where she was discovered.
"Her car was there, but she was found miles away from her car, so it just, it doesn't make sense," said Danielle Martino. "You know, we know Anna, and we know she wouldn't be walking at midnight on a highway."
"I feel like there could be something suspicious from this," said Gianna Martino. "It could really be just foul play."
It is believed that Semioli was likely hit by a large vehicle like a sport-utility vehicle, based on her injuries.
On Sunday night, she remained in a coma at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, where she was surrounded by loved ones praying she would pull through.
"We're all just hoping for a miracle, and hoping that this horrible mystery can get solved, and justice will be served for Annie," said Danielle Martino.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's office and Clifton police urged any witnesses to come forward. Semioli's family was also offering a $10,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver.
