Some Long Island Residents Upset With Truck Traffic

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Residents are unhappy with big rig traffic in their Long Island town.

In December, the state started allowing truck traffic on South Oyster Bay Road in Plainview.

Resident Christine Christie said when she purchased the home 15 years ago, the first thing she noticed was how quiet it was.

But all that has changed.

"We put a lot of money and effort into our yard and it's just not like that anymore," Christie said. "Enjoying the peace and tranquility of my backyard is definitely become something that is concerning."

The state determines whether truckers can drive on roadways.

But the Town of Oyster Bay will hold a hearing on the matter on Nov. 10 to try and stop the truck traffic by changing the weight limits on the roadway, prohibiting trucks weighing more than 10,000 pounds, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.
