2 Saved From Burning Car On Saw Mill River Parkway In Yonkers

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two people are recovering in the hospital after being pulled to safety from their burning car by some good Samaritans.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers near Palmer Road. Police said the driver lost control and slammed into trees before ending up in the middle of the northbound lanes.

Witnesses driving by stopped when they saw flames coming from the car. Police said the good Samaritans ran up to the vehicle, where they found a man behind the wheel and a woman in the passenger's seat.

They helped pull the victims from the burning vehicle just in time because moments later, the car became completely engulfed in flames, CBS2's Ilana Gold reported.

The two crash victims were taken to Westchester Medical Center with minor injuries. Investigators said they're now crediting the good Samaritans for saving their lives from the fast-moving fire.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
