MTA Stresses Commitment To Second Avenue Subway Project Despite Delays

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The MTA is restating its commitment to the Second Avenue Subway project after some elected officials raised questions about constant delays.

As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported, it was just over a week ago when local officials railed the agency about delays to phase two of the project.

Phase two will run from 96th Street up to 125th Street. Assemblyman Robert Rodriguez wondered about the inequity.

"The poorest New Yorkers that benefit the most are not getting the program," he said.

But on Thursday, top MTA officials met with local leaders to stress their commitment to the project.

If environmental reviews are expedited, the agency will look to fund the money to start the second phase of construction sooner, Haskell reported.
