Paris Attacks Have Ripple Effect On Travel Out Of New York Airports

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The attacks that unfolded in Paris on Friday had a ripple effect on air travel in the New York area.

As CBS2's Matt Kozar reported, airlines were hesitant to send off flights to France on Friday, if the French government wouldn't let passengers enter the country.

So far that did not appear to be the case, as flights to Paris were departing JFK with some delays.

At the Air France check-in at Terminal 1, passengers were relieved that flights had not been cancelled.

Many were anxious to get home.

"Very scared because I have a very close friend who actually was int he streets and he managed to escape, and I just learned that, so I'm a bit in shock," said a man who had just returned from France, "It's getting worse and it's very scary."

Many French citizens said they were too upset to talk about what had happened. Some teared up when approached by CBS2's crew.

Even though France's borders were closed, Charles De Gaulle International Airport in Paris remained open.

Delta and United said they are operating a normal schedule and were closely monitoring the situation.

According to a flight tracking website, some flight paths around France were being redirected, which was causing delays.
