Thief Steals Priceless Gift From Steps Of Edison Home

EDISON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Another thief has been caught on camera stealing a package from the front steps of a suburban home.

As CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported, this time, what's inside that package is priceless.

A minivan pulled up in front of the home, and an unknown man got out carrying pillows, walked up the driveway, disappeared momentarily, and then reappeared on camera with two packages folded in his arms.

One of them was priceless.

"I was waiting for them for a while. I got the confirmation that they were there. I came home, they were gone," Karen Delmonaco said.

There isn't a computer or this years' hottest toy packed in there, but three memory quilts sewn together with 90 pieces of Robert Delmonaco's shirts, and portions of his military uniform. He was in the 102nd Calvary Regiment in the Army National Guard. He died last year at just 21 years old.

"He was a great, great kid. He'd give you the shirt off his back, he really would have,"  Karen said.

Karen spent night after night cutting pieces for the quilts.

"It took a while, but it's just. It's for their loss, that's what I'm concerned for. They should have that," she said.

The completed quilts were meant as Christmas presents for her two daughters and her son's father.

"It's something you can keep in one place, and have different memories when you look at each shirt," Karen said, "That's all we have is the memories and some of his things. You cannot replace that. It's something I'd really like my kids to have."

Delmonaco said she's hopeful they'll find their way home again, and hopes the thief realizes how little value the quilts hold to anyone but her and her family.

"You can just throw them on the front lawn. I'm not going to prosecute. I just want them back, I just want them back," she said.

The family is offering a reward, a minimum of $3,000.

Anyone with information should call the Edison police.
