Board Rejects Nassau County Executive's Budget Plan

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- It's back to the drawing board after the control board overseeing Nassau County's finances rejected County Executive Ed Mangano's 2016 budget plan.

The Nassau Interim Finance Authority said Thursday that the plan relies too heavily on shaky revenue assumptions.

Some of the $80 million in risky revenue NIFA points to is projected sales tax and video game revenue, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

County leaders will have to try and find new money sources for the now rejected $2.95 billion budget plan.

Raising bus fares is a possibility and that has some frustrated riders thinking ahead.

"I don't know, a bicycle? Change jobs a little closer to home," one man said.

Mangano is scheduled to meet Friday with county legislative leaders  to find solutions to their financial woes and discuss possible budget cuts.
