Porzingis To Francesa: 'I'm Still Expecting Bigger Things From Myself'

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Kristaps Porzingis has exceeded expectations, and that's an understatement.

When the Latvian big man was selected by the Knicks with the fourth overall pick in June, a great deal of fans though that team president Phil Jackson made a huge mistake.

Well those fans aren't complaining now. On the contrary, Porzingis has quickly become the toast of the town.

SCHMEELK: PROJECTING WHAT PORZINGIS CAN BE

The rookie sensation joined WFAN host Mike Francesa on Tuesday afternoon to discuss his hot start, the Knicks and his transition to the NBA.

"I'm still expecting bigger things from myself," Porzingis told Francesa. "I'm still missing a lot of shots. I'm still turning the ball over. All of those good games that I had, I still could have done a better job. That's my mentality all the time. I'm just trying to play as hard as I can every time I step on the floor and help the team win."

HEAT COOL OFF KNICKS

It's a small sample size, but Porzingis has been brilliant in his first 15 NBA games. In 26.9 minutes per game, the 7-foot-3 power forward/center is averaging 13.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. He's shooting 42 percent from the field, 34 percent from three-point range and 84 percent from the free-throw line.

KEIDEL: IS PORZINGIS THE KNICKS' SAVIOR?

After a franchise-worst 17-65 record last season, the Knicks are off to an encouraging 8-7 start, tied with the Celtics for second place in the Atlantic Division.

The 'Bockers will play the Magic in Orlando on Wednesday night.
