City To Expand SING Musical Theater Program In Public Schools
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The city Department of Education on Tuesday announced an expansion of its musical theater program -- in which students write, cast, rehearse and perform their own musicals to 10 additional high schools.
Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña announced the expansion of SING on Tuesday.
The SING program began at Midwood High School in Brooklyn in 1947.
The program's expansion is being supported by a donation from singer-songwriter Taylor Swift in partnership with the Fund for Public Schools.
The 10 schools will start script-writing and the casting process this month, with final performances slated for early spring.
