Police: Dispute Over Parking Spot Leads To Shooting In Meatpacking District

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A fight over a parking spot ended in gunfire Tuesday morning in the Meatpacking District, police said.

It happened around 4 a.m. after three men left a club on Gansevoorst Street.

As they tried to pull out their BMW from the block, a van backed into them trying to park and then backed into them again, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported.

An argument followed and that's when the driver of the van pulled out a gun and opened fire, shooting a 27-year-old man in the shoulder and hip, Schuck reported.

The van then drove away.

The victim and his friends drove to West 14th Street and 10th Avenue before calling for help. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition, CBS2 reported.

Two area residents saw all of the police activity.

"Just because it's in a fancier part of town, doesn't mean it's not going to happen," one woman said.

"I didn't know it was a shooting, I think it's crazy," another said. "This is a very safe neighborhood."

The suspect remains on the loose.
