Spring In December? Residents Take Advantage Of Unseasonably Warm Temps

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The barren trees may indicate fall and winter are here, but the unseasonably warm temperatures are saying something else all together.

With temperatures expected to hit the lower 60s over the next few days, Tri-State area residents are out in force enjoying the beautiful, spring-like weather, CBS2's Mark Morgan reported.

"Normally it's freezing cold. I know it's the holidays and I know it's going to be some snow, but we'll take it," said Mohamed Abouzeid.

"It's absolutely fantastic. We're so lucky to have a December that's so mild. It's nice to be able to get out, get him outside," said Lauren Hayes with her infant son.

"I was talking about that with my husband. Last year, I think it was 34 and already the ground was frozen. It's unbelievable," said Sarah Zawoiski, of the Upper West Side.

"Right now, we're walking to work through the park, which I wouldn't have done otherwise. So we're just gonna enjoy Central Park. I live close by, so it's just really nice to be here," said Joyce Bukuru.

Residents are also taking their workouts outdoors while the temperatures are still warm. If tennis is your game, this is a perfect time to hit the courts.

"Gonna spend as much time outside as we possibly can, enjoy the good weather, maybe play some more tennis and take advantage of it; February is coming," said Deirdre Flynn.

"Last couple weeks before this was really cold and now it's a good time to go running and stuff," said Solomon Husain.

"I think it's great. It lets us train a lot longer. It lets people get prepared. I know I hate running in the snow, unless you're really dedicated," said Shilpa Reddy.

"It's almost like summertime, you know? I'm loving it," said one resident.

Holiday shopping may still be on the weekend agenda, but many a rethinking their plans due to the warm temps.

"Whatever the family wants to do, you know? If we get out on our bikes, that'd be great. That's something I'd like to do," said Cliff Brown.

The feeling of spring even had one woman pondering a true warm weather tradition.

"Put on a bikini and go into the park," said Chantal Meyers. "(Morgan: You think that's a good look?) With this weather, I don't think we have any choice."

On the Coney Island boardwalk, people were strolling along wondering if we skipped winter and went straight to spring.

"It feels too good to be true, because last year was way colder than this and now we have 60 degree weather, and that's why I'm taking a walk on the boardwalk," Justin Rolon told CBS2's Dave Carlin.

But not everyone was so thrilled with the warm weather. In fact, one vacationing Californian was upset at the lack of winter weather.

"We have thermals with us, ear muffs, hats, gloves, and it's 60 degrees out. What is this?" said Kelly Golondzinier, of Los Angeles. "It's too hot here."

Regardless, many New Yorkers agreed to enjoy it while it lasts.
