Vigil Held For Art Curator Struck, Killed By SUV In Fort Greene, Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A mother turned grief into action Tuesday night, as dozens of people gathered in Fort Greene, Brooklyn for a candlelight vigil in memory of pedestrians killed.
Residents and community leaders called for safer streets across the city as they remembered Victoria Nicodemus, 30, an art curator who was killed on Sunday, Dec. 6.
Nicodemus, who had been curator at the organization Indiewalls, was struck and killed by a sport-utility vehicle while walking along Fulton Street near South Portland Avenue.
A 37-year-old woman was also struck and critically injured in the accident just before 6 p.m. that day. Three others suffered minor injuries.
"She was absolutely beautiful inside and outside. There's no doubt about it. She had the best work ethic," said Victoria Nicodemus' mother, Elsa Nicodemus. "She loved emerging artists. She loved to support emerging artists. She loved beauty."
The driver of the SUV was ticketed for allegedly driving without a license.
