Long Island Man Accused Of Stabbing Father To Death

FREEPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man accused of stabbing his own father to death is expected to face a judge Wednesday.

Jordan Johnson, 24, got into a verbal argument with his father at a home in Freeport on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Nassau Police Det. Capt. John Azzata said 55-year-old Russell Johnson was on the phone with his sister and arguing with his son Jordan when the attack occurred, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.

"She heard a disturbance and she hung up and immediately called 911," he said.

When officers arrived at the home, they found Johnson dead from multiple stab wounds.

"Obviously it was something that disturbed both of them severely for it to end like this," Azzata said.

Jordan was arrested at the scene.

Russell Johnson was a CBS News employee. He worked as a tape playback technician for the network.

This wasn't the first time police had been called to the home. In fact, officers had been there 10 times previously, Jones reported.

But Azzata said the previous calls didn't involve Jordan.

"There have been domestics at a prior time, but again not involving the father and the son; other individuals of the family with the father," said Azzata.

Neighbors told WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs that Jordan Johnson suffered from mental health issues.

"Someday I figured he might do something bad because he was always in and out of the hospital," one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said.

Jordan Johnson is charged with second-degree murder and will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.

It is unclear what the two men argued over.
