Suffolk Police: Man Stole Pit Bull Puppy From Woman

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Suffolk County man has been charged for stealing a puppy from a woman on Friday, police said.

Suffolk police said 23-year-old Donovan Davis was being questioned in connection with a reported disturbance on Overland Avenue in Amityville around 9 p.m. when the officer noticed movement inside a bag Davis had in his possession.

Authorities said Davis then pulled a pit bull puppy out of the bag and admitted he had stolen it earlier in the day from a woman who agreed to meet with him about purchasing the pup.

Davis, of North Amityville, is charged with petit larceny and is being held at First Precinct pending arraignment.

Police said the puppy was returned to the owner.
