3 NYPD Officers Heading To Ohio Save Woman Trapped In Overturned Ambulette

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Three New York City police officers who were on their way to Ohio to pay respects to a fallen K9 helped rescue a woman in an overturned ambulette in western Pennsylvania.

Officers Benny Colecchia, Daniel Rich and Matt Wicelinski came upon the ambulette Thursday morning on Interstate 80 in Clarion, Pennsylvania -- about 64 miles from the Ohio border.

They found a woman in a wheelchair trapped inside the vehicle and quickly sprang into action.

They broke open a window and once inside the ambulette, the NYPD said Colecchia used a knife to cut the woman free from the wheelchair.

Rich and Wicelinski then carried the woman from the crash site and administered first aid.

The officers stayed with the woman until local emergency crews arrived.

The officers were on their way to a memorial service in Canton, Ohio for K9 Officer Jethro.

Jethro was shot and killed by a suspect over the weekend.
