Yonkers Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty After Deadly Dog Fight
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Yonkers woman is facing animal cruelty charges in connection to a deadly fight between two emaciated pit bulls over food, according to authorities.
Ashaki Bryant is accused of failing to provide adequate food and water to the dogs -- a male and a female -- for a lengthy amount of time, The Journal News reported.
According to the SPCA of Westchester County, the Jan. 3 fight over some rice in Bryant's backyard resulted in the male pit bull's death.
A veterinarian at Central Animal Hospital found the dogs to be dehydrated and emaciated, The Journal News reported.
The female pit bull was taken to the Yonkers Animal Shelter after treatment for her injuries.
Bryant is charged with two counts of animal cruelty.
