Family, Friends Stunned By Death Of Teen Who Fell From Hell's Kitchen Rooftop

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 15-year-old girl fell to her death Friday while hopping from rooftop to rooftop in Hell's Kitchen.

Natalya Jimenez was found in an alley off a series of four- and five-story brick buildings around 4:30 p.m.

According to authorities, Jimenez and two 14-year-old friends jumped at least three rooftops before they turned to go back to a building and she plunged to the street.

Officers responding to a 911 call found Jimenez unconscious and unresponsive in an alleyway at 699 Tenth Ave., near 48th Street. She was taken to Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

"Smart, honors student," said the girl's grief-stricken mother, Agatha Mangano. "She was in her first year at Hudson High School."

Jimenez lived above the Famous Original Ray's Pizza in Chelsea, which had been founded by her grandfather, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.

Following news of her death Friday night, residents placed candles outside the building on Tenth Avenue where the teen fell.
