NJ EMT Suffers Fatal Heart Attack After Responding To Daughter's Car Crash

ANDOVER, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey emergency services worker suffered a fatal heart attack after responding to a car crash involving his teenage daughter.

Scott Danielson, 49, the former chief of the Lakeland Emergency Squad, arrived at the scene of a car crash in Byram Township on Saturday afternoon only to discover his 19-year-old daughter was one of the victims.

"They proceeded to bring her to the hospital and when Scott got into the emergency room he collapsed," Warren County Public Safety Director Frank Wheatley told WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron.

Despite valiant efforts to save him, Wheatley said Danielson died Saturday night.

"He never regained consciousness," Wheatley said.

Danielson is described as the ultimate public servant, having spent years on emergency squads, fire departments, hazmat teams and others.

Wheatley said the community has some very big shoes to fill.

"Scott was very gregarious, easy going, he was involved in every aspect of volunteerism that you can imagine," Wheatley, who knew Danielson for 20 years, said. "He never turned down any assignments or responsibilities. He was always taking on additional challenges."

Neighboring emergency responders have been sharing their condolences on Facebook.

We would like to send our most sincere condolences to the Danielson family and the Warren County Communication center on...
