Boomer & Carton: The Awe-Inspiring Warriors And The Mets' Numbers Game

With Boomer out the rest of the week, recharging his batteries in preparation for an eventful run-up to Super Bowl 50, Craig's comfort zone was left somewhat intact Tuesday because he had another blonde, left-handed and retired NFL quarterback sitting to his right in the Allstate Studio.

Mind you, this former signal-caller was never awarded a league MVP, but you take what you can get.

Chris Simms made his way into Manhattan to sit in for Boomer on Tuesday. He and Craig got things started by discussing the Golden State Warriors, who improved to 41-4 with a surprisingly easy rout of the mighty San Antonio Spurs, 120-90 on Monday. Craig said the Warriors conjure memories of the storied '95-'96 Chicago Bulls, who were led by Michael Jordan to an NBA-record 72 wins.

In addition, Craig got Chris' early take on the Super Bowl before the conversation shifted towards baseball, a day after the Mets announced that they will retire Mike Piazza's No. 31 jersey in July during a ceremony at Citi Field.

Now, while Craig has no problem with Piazza's greatness being recognized, he does have a problem with the fact that outside of Tom Seaver, no other Mets' greats have been bestowed with the honor, namely Darryl Strawberry (No. 18), John Franco (45) and Dwight Gooden (16).
