Suffolk County Police Crack Down On Neighborhood Drug Houses
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County police are cracking down on area drug houses with a new initiative aimed to work with local residents.
"We're finding more and more that people are selling drugs out of their houses, and we need to crack down on that," Suffolk County Acting Police Commissioner Tim Sini said. "So the message here is we're not going to tolerate that in our community."
According to officials, investigators have executed nine search warrants, seized nearly 3,000 grams of cocaine, crack, heroin and oxycodone and $300,000 in cash since the start of the initiative, WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported.
Sini is calling on residents to help with the effort, by reporting suspicious activity to local officials, and to call the Suffolk County Police Department tip line.
"We're going to be soliciting complaints from residents at community meetings. We hold Monday precinct meetings," Suffolk County Acting Police Commissioner Tim Sini said.
Suffolk County police is asking anyone who may have spotted suspicious activity to call 1-800-220-TIPS.
