Report: Knicks 'Informed' Chances Of Landing Kevin Durant In Free Agency 'Would Be Influenced' By Hiring Scott Brooks

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Could the New York Knicks land Kevin Durant in free agency and create their own "Big Three"?

According to ESPN, league sources say the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar could be lured to the Big Apple if they hire his former coach Scott Brooks.

"Brooks is a name to think about, for one reason: The Knicks have been informed that their chances of landing Kevin Durant this summer would be influenced by hiring Brooks, according to league sources," ESPN's Ian Begley reports.

The Thunder fired Brooks last April. He went 338-207 over seven seasons with the team, leading them to five straight playoff appearances, including the 2012 NBA Finals.

The ESPN report also reveals that the Knicks chances at landing Durant took a hit after dismissing Derek Fisher, but that hiring Brooks "could get Durant's attention."

The eight-year veteran will be the league's biggest free agent this summer. Durant would instantly make the Knicks title contenders and one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, teaming him up with Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis.

The former MVP has been averaging just over 27 points per game throughout his career.
