Prosecutors: NJ Prison Teacher Sexually Assaulted Inmate Over 20 Times, Got Pregnant Twice

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP)-- A prison teacher accused of sexually assaulting an inmate more than 20 times and becoming pregnant twice has been fired.

Mercer County prosecutors say 42-year-old Chong-Hwa Chang of Delran taught at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton and had a sexual relationship with an inmate.

NJ.com reports the Corrections Department found a journal in Chang's home, in which prosecutors say she admitted to having a sexual relationship with the inmate and getting pregnant twice.

Sexually explicit photos of Chang were also found during the search.

Chang taught adult basic education and earned a $73,000 annual salary. Her bail was set at $50,000 on Thursday.

Her attorney said he would not comment because he hasn't received any evidence yet.

Corrections Department spokesman Matthew Schumann said she is no longer getting paid, but can appeal her firing.

The number of inmates confined in county and city jails was an estimated 744,600 as of 2014, as reported by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. In a special report, correctional administrators reported 8,763 allegations of sexual victimization in prisons, 48 percent of these incidents involved staff and inmates.
