Florida Couple Comes Forward To Claim Share Of Record $1.6 Billion Powerball Jackpot

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Florida couple has cashed in the second of three winning tickets from last month's record-setting $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot.

Each winning ticket is worth almost $529 million dollars before taxes.

Maureen Smith, 70, and 55-year-old David Kaltschmidt, who claimed the prize as "The Nickel 95 Trust," opted to take the lump sum payment of about $327.8 million.

Kaltschmidt said at a news conference Wednesday that they didn't inform family members until last week that they won.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Publix grocery store in Melbourne Beach. The couple said they had been playing the same numbers for years and didn't realize they had won until the following morning.

The other two winning tickets for the Jan. 13 drawing were bought in Munford, Tennessee, and Chino Hills, California.

John and Lisa Robertson of Munford, Tennessee, cashed in their ticket last month, also taking the lump sum. The winners in California have not publicly come forward yet.

Five second place tickets were sold in New York — three in Queens, one in Rockland County and one in Nassau County. There were also two second place winners in New Jersey and three in Connecticut.

An employee at a 7-Eleven on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage was thrilled to hear that they sold one of the second place tickets.

"Very happy, very happy!" he told CBS2's Andrea Grymes back in January.

The winning numbers from the Jan. 13 drawing were 4-8-19-27-34 and Powerball 10.
