Nassau County Firefighters Museum Mascot Finally Has A Name

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A 25-foot tall Dalmatian mascot at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center finally has a name.

The name, Valiant, was selected from hundreds of entries in a countywide competition.

It was submitted by 5-year-old Lillyanna Rodriguez, who says you have to be valiant and brave to be a fire dog.

Museum spokesperson Alana Petrocelli said Valiant will now help educate children about fire safety.

"We are all about teaching and preventing fires, and helping kids to learn more about fire safety," Petrocelli said.

Valiant now greets visitors at the museum entrance.
