Police Arrest 13, Seize Assault Weapons In Long Island Gang Bust

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)-- Guns, drugs, and cash were seized during search warrants on Long Island Friday.

The crackdown on illegal guns and gang activity in Suffolk County continues as the police department made 13 arrests during the latest search warrants. Officials said weapons, drugs, and cash were seized inside homes in North Amityville.

"We executed a search warrant at 90 East Smith Street in North Amityville. It was a known gang location. The gang's name is 'No Beef Chasing Chicken.' We recovered a ton of evidence, including a laded 357 revolver, a loaded AK-47 assault weapon, a sniper rifle with a scope," Police Commissioner Tim Sini told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

The arrests were a result of a newly created team called F.A.S.T., or the Firearm Suppression Team. The group consists of police officers and detectives who target individuals that pose significant safety threats on Suffolk residents. The police department hopes the new team will help remove illegal firearms from the streets and focus on communities that are impacted by firearm-related crimes.
