Police: Drunk Driver Traveling Wrong Way On Interstate Kills New York City Man

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey state police say a drunken driver traveling the wrong way on an interstate highway crashed head-on with another vehicle, killing a New York City man.

The crash on Interstate 80 in Saddle Brook occurred around 1:20 a.m. Saturday.

A state police spokesman says a pickup truck driven by 32-year-old Paterson resident Mario Funes was westbound in an eastbound lane when he crashed into a car driven by 64-year-old Luis Feliz, of Yonkers, New York. The impact caused Feliz's car to overturn, and he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Funes apparently suffered minor injuries in the crash. He was charged with drunken driving, and state police say criminal charges are pending.

It wasn't known if Funes has retained a lawyer.
