JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey man has been charged in the deaths of a father and his young daughter following a fatal crash on the New Jersey Turnpike Monday.

New Jersey State Police have arrested 36-year-old Scott Hahn of Hamilton and charged him with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of vehicular homicide in the deaths of Timothy O'Donnel and his 6-year-old daughter, Bridget, of Bayonne.

As Joe Biermann reported from Chopper 2, the accident happened at 3:19 p.m. on Monday, on the Newark Bay extension of the Turnpike just past toll booth 14C in Jersey City.

State police said in a statement that O'Donnell, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, was slowing with traffic when Hahn, who was driving a 1998 Mercedes-Benz, rear-ended him. The impact caused O'Donnell's car to travel through the tolls and enter the eastbound lane. That's when 51-year-old Eliasar Morales of Bayonne, who was driving a 2013 Mercedes-Benz, struck O'Donnell's car.

O'Donnell was pronounced dead at the scene while Bridget died at Jersey City Medical Center. Hahn was transported to Jersey City Medical Center and is currently in stable condition. Morales was taken to Bayonne Medical Center where he was treated and released.
