Facebook Upgrades 'Like' Button With New 'Reactions'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Facebook liked likes, but now it's giving users more options.

The social media giant rolled out "Reactions" Wednesday. The new system allows users a range of responses to content: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad or Angry, as Facebook calls them.

All users will shortly have access to all the options. To activate them, you simply hold down the like button on a mobile device or hover over it on a desktop, and a range of emoticons will pop up.

"We understand that this is a big change, and want to be thoughtful about rolling this out. For more than year we have been conducting global focus groups and surveys to determine what types of reactions people would want to use most," wrote Facebook Product Manager Sammi Krug. "We will continue learning and listening to feedback to make sure we have a set of reactions that will be useful for everyone."
