WAYNE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A woman was trapped inside her vehicle after a telephone pole slammed on top of her car following a car accident in Wayne Tuesday.

CBS2's Dick Brennan reported a car driving down Route 23 veered off the road and smashed into a utility pole, bringing it down onto the road.

Lisa Sinclair's car smashed into the downed pole, which still had its power lines energized.

"The car in front of me flew off the road, like, unbelievable," Sinclair told CBS2. "The pole came crashing right in front of my car. I slid into it. Electrical things were flying everywhere, it was crazy. It landed on my car."

Other drivers who had stopped came running over to Sinclair to make sure she wasn't seriously injured.

"Passengers told her to stay in the car because there was still wires on the vehicle," Don Daly of the Wayne Police Department told CBS2.

Sinclair's engine burst into flames, but she couldn't move with the electrical wires still on her vehicle, and had to hope the fire could be quickly extinguished.

"I waited. Everyone's yelling, 'Don't get out of the car, don't get out of the car,' and then the car started on fire," she said. "Luckily, some policemen, firemen came along quick enough and put the fire out. They were so great, they were so great, they were there so fast."

PSE&G workers were able to cut power to the lines, freeing Sinclair from her vehicle.

Sinclair's car was not the only one hit in the crash.

"The wires also came down on the other side of the highway and struck another vehicle that was heading southbound. That driver was forced to stop," Daly told CBS2.

CBS2 reports crews were able to clear the roadway quickly so the afternoon rush hour would go smoothly. Sinclair, who got new airbags in her car right before the accident, was not injured.

"I'm still in one piece, thank God," she said.

No one else was injured in the chain-reaction crash.

Police would not say if there would be any charges against the driver who veered off the road into the telephone pole.
