2 NYPD Officers Rescue Man, 5 Dogs From Burning Home In Suffolk County

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two NYPD officers helped rescue a man and his five dogs from a burning home in Suffolk County.

The officers were dropping off a police surgeon in Wheatley Heights after the surgeon was treating the officer who was shot in Brooklyn Tuesday evening.

But as they were ready to head back to the city, Officer George Luti told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall he saw smoke coming from a home.

They called 911, then ran to the home where the homeowner was in his doorway, but needed help removing his five dogs.

"He said he needed help and me and my partner carried, I think it was three dogs. We went back and carried the other two dogs out. Then we kept telling the occupant to leave the house, leave the house. For some reason he didn't want to leave, he was just standing in the front door," Luti told 880.

Luti's partner carried the homeowner to safety after the homeowner collapsed. The officers and the homeowner were fortunately not seriously injured.
