NYPD Searching For Man Who Attempted To Rape Woman In Brooklyn Apartment Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is searching for a suspect who they say attempted to rape a woman inside her Brooklyn apartment building.

Police said the incident took place Saturday at 11:45 p.m. as the male suspect approached the 29-year-old woman inside the lobby of her apartment building on 50th and 8th in Sunset Park, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reports.

1010 WINS reports the suspect followed the victim for several blocks. He reportedly told the victim he lived in the building, so she let him in.

Police said the suspect pulled a knife and placed it up to her neck. He then allegedly touched the woman's buttocks and removed her pants and undergarments and touched her midsection.

1010 WINS reports he also choked her until she felt she was about to faint.

Police said the suspect proceeded to sexually assault the victim and fled the scene.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was released.

A neighbor told 1010 WINS that the area is very desolate.

"Cause it is so quiet you do have to keep your eyes open because it's so quiet. There's no one out here to watch your back if it does go down," the neighbor said.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned male, around 5-foot-10, slim build, and wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
