Mike Francesa: NCAA Tournament Committee 'Consumed By Television'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NCAA Tournament is a proud American tradition -- and so is second-guessing the tournament selection committee.

"Everyone always wants to show angst toward the selection committee," WFAN's Mike Francesa said on his show Monday.

Francesa said one thing is clear: "More than ever before -- I can tell you this, as someone who understands this process -- they are now completely, 100 percent consumed by television."

Francesa said the tournament committee has been so concerned with the ratings for the Tuesday and Wednesday First Four games that it clearly has placed an emphasis on putting bigger-name teams in them.

"They put Michigan in a Tuesday-Wednesday scenario," Francesa said. "You've got Vandy-Wichita State. Vandy-Wichita State is a TV game. That is a TV game! Wichita State has been ranked almost every day for three years. They were undefeated a couple of years ago. They've been a darling of the tournament before that. This year, they were a little banged up. Vandy early in the season was considered to be one of the 10 best teams in the country."

Francesa also noted that the committee set up intriguing potential second-round matchups between Kentucky and Indiana, as well as Texas and Texas A&M.
