3/20 CBS2 Sunday Morning Weather Headlines

By Matt DeLucia

Good morning everyone and Happy Spring! Yup, it officially arrived at 12:30 a.m. and of course while spring will win the war in the end, winter will win the battle today. Temps will struggle to reach the upper 30s and low 40s and yes, some snow is on the way!

The good news is this will NOT be a major snowstorm. In fact, the latest trends have it far from that for most of the region. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Nassau and western Suffolk counties and a Winter Storm Watch is posted for eastern Suffolk, all from noon today until 6 a.m. Monday.

The latest set-up has a coastal low that will pass offshore later today into early tomorrow Morning, coming just close enough to brush us with some wet snow. Any mix to start will change to all snow Sunday night and continue overnight. It looks like there will be a sharp cutoff to the N&W where some of the suburbs only see a few flakes. Expect a trace to 2" for much of the area, with 2-4" as you head east into Nassau county. The highest totals look once again to be far eastern Long Island, where 4-6" is a good call.

The snow moves out west to east as the Monday AM commute is wrapping up, and any accumulations will melt very quickly as temps climb back into the 40s and 50s to start the work week.
