Owner: Women Paid Small Part Of Check At Teaneck Restaurant, Drove Off

TEANECK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Three women were caught on camera this past weekend walking into a New Jersey restaurant, and allegedly running out without paying the full check.

A waitress tried to stop the three diners at the Teaneck Sushi Buffet in Teaneck. The waitress said they literally ate and ran on Easter Sunday.

A sign on the door of the restaurant reads, "All activities monitored by video camera." Tom McGlue, owner of the restaurant, has eight cameras inside and outside of his business on Teaneck Road.

"Times are tough," McGlue said. "However, it's tough all over. We have our own expenses to meet, and it's insulting when somebody comes in and they think they can do that to us."

McGlue called the alleged theft personal.

Restaurant staff said the three women were seated at a booth, and one of the women ordered the all-you-can-eat sushi buffett while the other two said they still needed to look at the menu.

"The one woman ordered enough for a small army, of course," McGlue said.

The server, named Anna, caught onto what the women were trying to pull, according to McGlue.

"When she saw the three of them eating, she said, 'Well you know, the price is per person,' and they said, 'OK, we'll pay for three,'" McGlue said.

But then, plan B apparently kicked in. Surveillance video showed one of the ladies get up and leave.

"As we've come to find out by looking at the video, she went to get the getaway car ready," McGlue said.

A few minutes later, the other two walked out – leaving only $25, enough for one buffet order. Their bill was $77.

"I guess what they came in they were thinking or doing was they would pay for one and eat for three, and when that didn't work out, they came, they paid, dropped the money for one," McGlue said.

At that point, Anna sprang into action, chasing them out the front door and around back.

"I run, but they're already in the car," Anna said.

Anna may not have been able to catch up with the women as they sped off in a Toyota Camry, but police said with many camera angles available, they might be able to find them.
