Uber Fights Fingerprinting Requirement For Drivers In New Jersey
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Uber has pushed back against a New Jersey state requirement of fingerprinting potential employees and putting them through a state police background check.
As WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported, the licensing requirements are applied to nurses, teachers, taxi and limousine drivers, among others.
But Uber officials said such a requirement would make it more difficult to recruit drivers and would be unfair to minority applicants.
Uber's Amanda DeSantis said the checks show if a person was arrested, but the databases often do not show if there was a conviction.
She further said false arrests are not uncommon, especially in minority neighborhoods.
A bill including the fingerprinting requirement was reintroduced to legislators in Trenton earlier this year.
