Medical Incident May Have Played Role In Cab Jumping Curb, Dragging Woman In Greenwich Village

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A medical emergency may be to blame for a chaotic scene in Greenwich Village on Thursday morning.

A woman was pinned under a taxi after being struck in Greenwich Village Thursday morning.

As CBS2's Steve Langford reported, there was panic chaos as emergency responders managed to free the woman and she was rushed to Bellevue Hospital. She is listed in critical condition.

"They were trying to move the car or sort of like, tilt it so they could get the body out of behind the cab," Natan Skorput said.

The incident took place at around 11 a.m. at East 8th & Greene streets.

The taxi climbed onto the street, it's trajectory could be traced from an upended plant to skidmarks on the street.

"I could see the taxi like lose control from there, hit the plant," student Jay Ahn said.

Ahn said he wishes he had never sen the cab crash into the 32-year-old woman.

"You could see the person's body getting dragged from the building to the end," he said, "I felt really nauseous. It's a hard sight to see.

The driver was questioned by police at the scene, and was later taken to the hospital after having reportedly suffered some type of medical incident while driving.

Sources late Thursday told 1010 WINS the incident might have been a seizure.

The victim was extricated by the FDNY and taken away in critical condition while the taxi was processed by investigators.
