Police: Man Fatally Shot After Slashing Police Officer With Knife

ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP)- Authorities say a Rotterdam man was fatally shot by police after slashing an officer with a knife.

The Times Union of Albany reported that police were called to a house on Roberta Road around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said a man in the house slashed at the officers, injuring one, and an officer fired his weapon. The man was killed.

Neighbors told The Times that they heard scanner talk of a domestic dispute between a mother and son. Neighbors believe the son was having a psychotic episode.

The officer who was hurt has non-life threatening injuries.
