Yankees' Chapman Throws 98 MPH In 1st Extended Spring Game

TAMPA, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman worked a perfect inning Wednesday in his first extended spring training game.

Chapman is working out at the Yankees' minor league complex in Florida while serving a season-opening 30-game suspension stemming from baseball's new domestic violence policy.

Pitching on Derek Jeter Field in an extended spring camp game, the left-hander got a broken-bat grounder from Yankees prospect Carlos Vidal and struck out Estevan Florial and Jared Mitchell on 3-2 pitches.

Chapman, who regularly tops 100 mph with his fastball, reached 98 during a 15-pitch outing.

Chapman was acquired from Cincinnati In December. Over the last four seasons with the Reds, he had a 145 saves and a 1.90 ERA.
