Woman Struck, Killed By NJ TRANSIT Train In South Orange

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was struck and killed by an NJ TRANSIT train in South Orange, New Jersey, briefly shutting down the Morris & Essex Line.

The incident happened about 5 p.m. Monday at the South Orange station, according to South Orange Mayor Sheena Collum. The woman was dead on the scene after being struck, NJ TRANSIT said.

Following the incident, the NJ TRANSIT Morris & Essex Line was completely shut down, and commuters leaving New York City were advised to make alternate plans.

By 5:50 p.m., Morris & Essex Line service had been restored, but trains were delayed by a full hour.
