Reports: NJ Teacher Forced To Resign Over Anti-Trump Video To Keep Job

MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey teacher, who was reportedly forced to resign over a video he showed in class making fun of Donald Trump, has withdrawn his resignation.

Joseph Ventre, a history teacher at Middletown High School, was asked for his resignation after at least one parent complained about the video, which criticized the Republican presidential candidate, according to published reports.

The video is from the HBO show "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" and has more than 24 million views on YouTube.

Apparently no videos featuring other presidential candidates were shown in the class, according to reports.

When asked to resign, Ventre reportedly agreed to step down after the school year. The township's superintendent of schools told the Asbury Park Press on Friday that Ventre withdrew his resignation and there's no action before the board at this time, WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported.

Thousands of community members had signed an online petition to save Ventre's job. The petition was started by a student who says she's learned more in his history class then ever before.
