Man Gets 5 Years For Robbing Woman While She Was Breastfeeding Baby In NYC Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man who attacked and robbed a woman breastfeeding on a New York City park bench has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Juan Garcia threatened the 39-year-old mother with a knife as she was feeding her 6-month-old daughter in Fort Tryon Park in November, prosecutors said.

Garcia pushed the woman from behind and then displayed the knife before grabbing her bag and fleeing, authorities said.

"I thought, 'he's going to kill me,'" the victim, Elena Sobina, told CBS2 after the attack. "I thought this was it."

Sobina said her daughter Kelly fell face-down to the ground when she was pushed.

Police tracked Garcia through the smartphone in the woman's bag.

He was sentenced Monday, The Daily News reported.
